Company customers include leading manufacturers of enterprise

With the ever increasing concern regarding energy prices and resources, the world continues to seek out green technology and energy efficient solutions. High power LEDs provide much needed energy efficiency in lighting," noted Andrew Cowell, Micrel's vice president of Analog. "Micrel's LED drivers provide the flexibility and ease-of-use for efficiently powering this growing alternative lighting solution."

The MIC3230/31/32 series features a wide operating input voltage range from 6V to 45V. The MIC323x family of LED drivers has a feedback voltage of 250mV to reduce system level power dissipation and a programmable current control in order to drive the differing current levels available for a variety LEDs. The entire product family can boost up to a very high voltage and is capable of driving an output up to 70W. The MIC3230/31 has an adjustable operating frequency from 10kHz to 1MHz and the MIC3232 has a fixed frequency operation of 400kHz to allow flexibility in the design. The MIC3231 features a dithering capability which can reduce EMI by up to 12dB. All three products feature PWM dimming capability, an enable pin for very low power shutdown, OVP, over temperature protection and UVLO.

LED lighting is represented accurately in the market

Established by the US Department of Energy (DOE) in January 2009, SSL (Solid State Lighting) Quality Advocates is a voluntary pledge program ensuring that LED lighting is represented accurately in the market.  SSL Quality Advocates pledge to use Lighting Facts labels to document product performance based on industry standard LM-79 testings, and guard against exaggerated claims while ensuring a satisfactory experience for lighting buyers. The DOE and the Next Generation Lighting Industry Alliance (NGLIA) jointly developed SSL Quality Advocates program and the Lighting Facts Label.   This program is designed to serve as a foundation for successful commercialization of solid-state lighting, which has the potential to reduce Lighting Energy Usage in the U.S. by 33 Percent.

Bulbrite is a manufacturer and supplier of innovative, energy-efficient light source solutions.  Founded nearly 40 years ago, Bulbrite is a family owned business renowned for its commitment to innovation, education and new technology. After acquiring Alpha, Hon Hai can equip itself with integrated capability for LED lighting manufacturing. The company now has LED packaging and lighting module affiliates.Hon Hai had acquired only a minor ownership in Alpha through a recent capital raising which aimed to fund the company’s expansion plan.Dramatic improvements in commercially available LED performance in recent years, as well as significant cost reduction, has made it possible to design LED lamps to offer comparable lumen output on the basis of cost of ownership.

environmentally friendly LED lighting

Displ’aire, working with YAHAM, is changing the rules for LED displays,” says Leo Stearns, Displ’aire’s CEO. “Cree’s involvement started with us early in our development cycle, and they provided the support we needed to rapidly deploy our new technologies. Displ’aire portable, daylight-visible displays and the new water-resistant YAHAM LEDs are a perfect technology match for creating brighter, more efficient displays that can better stand up to the elements.”

The ScreenMaster CLV6A-FKB features a black face for improved contrast in full-color video screens, decorative lighting and amusement applications. It has a unique encapsulation resin with UV-inhibitors, minimizing the effects of long-term exposure to direct sunlight which helps to improve the stability of the light-output over the life of the LED. It also features a unique matched horizontal radiation pattern—enhancing color mixing and pixel-to-pixel color consistency.YAHAM is leading the LED lighting revolution and setting the stage to obsolete the incandescent light bulb through the use of energy-efficient, environmentally friendly LED lighting. YAHAM is a market-leading innovator of lighting-class LEDs, LED lighting, and semiconductor solutions for wireless and power applications.

Unlike LED offerings from other vendors, this model uses 960 LEDs across 80 cells (12 LEDs per cell) to illuminate the full back area of the LCD screen, said Schindler. The technology is said to reduce power consumption over traditional CCFL backlighting systems, while combining with the company’s Smart Dimming technology to yield greater color saturation and improved contrast and black levels from other non-LED-lit products. What’s more, Schindler said, because the technology illuminates the full back of the LCD, the Vizio model will have more consistently even lighting across the full width of the screen. In December the company will upgrade the VF551XVT to the VF552XVT, which for the same price will include the Vizio Internet Apps (VIA) system to enable the set to link to online content and programming services over the Web.

the white light emitted from the lamp using an accessory remote control

Last year, Taiwan's LED industry posted an overall production value of NT$46 billion, the second largest in the world. Lighting applications accounted for over NT$10 billion. And LED back-lighting applications saw production value grow 109 percent from 2007.There are currently around 3,000 LED companies in mainland China, most of them mid- and downstream manufacturers and upstream manufacturers totalling only 25. The total production of the industry reached RMB70 billion in 2008.Jamie Fox, a market analyst at UK-based IMS research, said that the proliferation of notebook PCs backlit with LEDs will deliver annual revenues of $800 million to chip makers next year. He describes the ramp as "explosive.Dell has already publicly committed to using LEDs in all [of its] notebooks by 2010, and other manufacturers are also committed to a surge in LED notebook backlighting in 2009 and 2010," said Fox.

Fox is expecting the $200 million worth of last year to exponentially grow in 2009 and 2010, as the market for LEDs in notebooks doubles year-on-year.He also predicts that market penetration of LEDs in notebooks will reach 50 per cent by 2010, compared with 10 per cent in 2008. Notebooks typically require between 60 and 70 LED chips, he estimates. The one down side, according to the analyst, is that the market for LEDs used in notebook PCs will saturate rapidly after the next two or three years of explosive growth. And at that point, revenues from TV applications and general lighting are expected to ramp up quickly.LED Lamp features an Adjustable Color Function that enables users to change the color of the white light emitted from the lamp using an accessory remote control, an industry first for an LED lamp, according to the company. Users can select from seven different shades of white ranging from a warm white to a cooler daylight white to match the weather, the season, time of day, purpose, or other preferences. This model also features a built-in Dimmer Function to adjust brightness.

an industry first for an LED lamp, enabling the shade of the white light from the lamp to be changed from a pleasing warm white (equivalent to the light from a conventional incandescent lamp) to a cooler daylight white (equivalent to bright daylight) using an accessory remote control. The user can select his or her preferred shade of white according to the weather, season of the year, or time of day. For example, a user can select warm white during the winter or at dinnertime when a relaxing atmosphere is desired, or crisp cooler daylight white during the summer or in the morning for a refreshing wake-up. This model also features a built-in Dimmer Function, and together, these features enable users to enjoy a diverse range of illumination settings by changing the brightness and color of the white light using just one remote control. This lamp can also be used without the dimmer in the usual way.
