LED market filled with inferior products

The yahamlighting LED market has got enormous growth in recent years. Revenue in 2013 is forecast to double from that of four years ago, while unit shipments this year will have more than tripled since 2009. The next strong growth is expected in 2014 via general lighting along with other applications such as TVs and tablets, and then growth will slow after next year. The export of high-end products in Xiamen was the first and the industrial chain in Xiamen was the most complete in China. Reporters recently learned that Xiamen governments have reached hands to guide enterprises to take the road of industry standards when the Led high bay light are facing challenges.

The LED supply in China has been able to account for 90% of global market share. However, a huge risk that the outsiders have blamed the LED market filled with inferior products and excess capacity hidden behind this seemingly prosperity. If LED enterprises are always in the condition that manufacturing low end products and disorderly competing as some photovoltaic businesses, the final outcome may be that the enterprises or even the relevant industries in the whole region will come to the end. As economic restructuring, it is inevitable that the LED industry will focus more on quality transformation than quantity transformation.

Previously, under the guidance of the idea that focus on the quantitative expansion, the low access threshold and low product specifications result in a large number of companies to enter the market with low-price products in poor quality, so the market varies greatly, and the Led flood light trend that "good money drives bad money out" will occur. In this case, it is not enough to only rely on the self-correction of market itself, the support from governments is more important to help LED enterprises to realize breakthrough.

the new home farming business mainly uses LED for lighting

Using LEDs as light sources in vegetable gardening is a new business opportunity in Japan, according to a recent Sankei Biz report. Large Japanese real estate developers, consumer electronics manufacturers, and architecture firms are utilizing their advantages to quickly set up their business models in this emerging market. To secure top positions in Japan’s real estate market, an emerging trend has been the involvement of developers into the agriculture industry.Large Japan real estate developer Asahi Kasei Homes aims to launch home vegetable gardening equipment by 2014. Another big Japanese construction company, Obayashi Corporation, is preparing to move into the agricultural production field, while Nishimatsu Construction plans to increase vegetable production by five folds.

Real estate developers fervently conduct empirical research in the wake of “home farming” business opportunities.Asahi Kasei Homes is currently conducting LED vegetable gardening experiments at a house located in Fuji city, Shizuoka prefecture.Asahi Kasei Homes President Masahito Hirai showed confidence in the vegetables’ marketability, stating, “The vegetables grown with LED lights look green and delicious, they probably taste very good.”According to sources familiar with the matter, the new home farming business mainly uses LED for lighting and applies hydroculture, a farming method based on water solutions and does not require use of soil. Users can easily enjoy farming at home.

However, this new business opportunity has presented a small challenge. The home gardened vegetables have a growth cycle of about 40 days, and after the first crops are harvested it takes awhile before the second batch can be cultivated, said Hirai. Despite the waiting period, Asahi still plans to commercialize LED farming next year, since vegetable gardening can become a highlight in interior decoration and spice up home owners’ life.Electronics related to LED vegetable gardening can be sighted in Japanese home appliance super markets.According to the report, Yamazen in Japan has been selling LED vegetable gardening product, “Home Vegetable Garden,” at the price of about 9,980 Japanese Yen since last December.

The higher the claimed lifetime

In the letter to all stakeholders, EPA responded a series of amendments for the purpose of improving transparency and increasing flexibility, saying that it has seriously considered all suggestions and have published them on the Lighting normative's website for public review, and comes with a summary of the comments EPA has responded. The final draft retains the key elements of the draft 4, added some minor modifications and further refined the dimming requirements.

Notably, the final draft allows new models automatically to pass certification, as long as the changes in these models will not violate any performance standards or any other requirements of this specification. In addition, the new draft updates the "tolerance" section to make the specific tolerance consistent with the UL1993 safety report requirements; the test data of measuring the temperature change has also been extended. The final draft also defined the tolerance range of luminous efficiency and light output value. References to new models have been removed from the specific product variation section. The specification notes that any lamp variant of a certified product may be selected for verification testing and the results from such random testing will impact the certification for all variants certified that are using the same representative model test data. New models that fall outside of the allowed tolerances that exempt it from fresh certification must undergo a minimum of 3,000 hours of testing before any Energy Star certification can be granted.

For initial lifetime claims of 25,000 or less hours, Energy Star certification can be obtained after just 3,000 hours of testing if a certain percentage of lumen maintenance is achieved. This required percentage is based on the claimed lifetime. The higher the claimed lifetime, the higher the percentage of the original lumen output must be maintained for the interim certification. However, testing of the lamp must continue through 6,000 hours for full lifetime certification. In a similar fashion, for lifetime claims between 30,000 and 50,000 hours can receive interim certification after 6,000 hours of testing if a certain percentage of lumen maintenance is achieved. For full lifetime certification of 30,000 or more hours, the testing must continue to specific hour values based upon the lifetime being claimed.

which make ambitious claims about performance

We are thrilled to have been selected by Safe Haven to convert lighting to LED at their second and larger facility in Elmsford, New York. The results and cost savings of the initial conversion to Xeleum LED lighting at our Mount Kisco facility demonstrated that it was an even better investment than we originally thought and we knew it was only a matter of time before the okay came to convert our second and larger facility. The simple payback period is just over two years with a positive monthly cash flow of $1,600.00 net of financing.

Some members of the Lighting Industry Association rencently complaints that a number of LED retrofit lamps not delivering on some manufacturers’ claims, which has led to the trade body calling on the National Measurement Office to test lamps. The LIA’s COO Peter Hunt said it will team up with the NMO to check the validity of product claims and aims to test “between 50 and 60 lamps of various types, with 20 of each being purchased in the marketplace from a number of sources. He also said the decision about whether to publish any of the test results would be taken by the NMO. “The publication of any results or any actions are entirely at the discretion of the NMO”.

Members who produce compliant products had said that it is difficult to compete in a market which is increasingly populated by products which make ambitious claims about performance and life. As an association we are keen that end users should have a positive experience when first buying LED retrofit lamps by buying products which deliver what they claim. When Lighting asked Hunt what penalty those making inaccurate claims about their products could expect to receive, he said: “The NMO have a number of measures they can invoke which are published on their website.”

The company maintained precise control over developmental costs

The financial report recently published for Taiwan LED manufacture 2Q performance shows LED packaging manufacturers are fairing far better than the majority of wafer manufacturers whom are still in a state of deficit. Among seven packaging manufactures on the market all experienced gains this quarter aside from Bright LED Electronics Corp and Harvatek whom had profit loss of NT$0.07 and NT$0.44. Edison Otp and PARA Light were able to turn their profits around this quarter, and Everlight still was able to maintain a good performance with EPS NT$ 0.9, keeping their top spot.

LED packaging manufacture Everlight was able to maintain their last quarter performance with consolidated revenue for Q2 of NT$597.1 million, their highest to date. The company maintained precise control over developmental costs. On top of that, with utilization rates for production capacity increased 80 percent and higher, new technology and products released, this quarter’s gross margin still maintained 26.3 percent, surpassing that of last quarter’s 22.49 percent.

Aside from Everlight, LED Tech Electronics and PARA Light have also locked their center of operations this year at increasing gross margin performance. Through adjustment to their operation strategy, LEDTech Electronics raised their 2Q gross margin to 30.88 percent, higher than last quarter’s 29.70 percent and last year’s 2Q 27.6 percent. Due to the operation being locked at the low range lighting niche market, this quarter’s gross margin was higher than that of Everlight making it the highest for LED packaging manufactures. PARA Light through eliminating low gross margins and negative gross margin placement orders and at the same time raising gross margin product market proportions, the company was able to increase the 2Q consolidated gross margin to 27.27 percent, with a quarterly increase of 6.25 percent and yearly increase of 11.46 percent helping the company out of the red for 2Q.

This year’s focus for Edison was on expanding their market scale. The company originally focused on the high range LED market, but this year it has begun to actively expand low-to-mid range PLCC production capacity and also aggressively enter the Chinese Market where products have a relatively lower gross margin.

the form of LED shutter shades decorate the face brilliantly

Whether for a birthday party, summer party, graduation party, Halloween party, New Years’ party or other parties, glow in the dark parties are the latest craze that don’t see signs of slowing down any time soon. They suit every theme and make parties more fun.

Light up jewelry is very popular. Special LED necklaces flash. They’re not the only piece of jewelry that flashes with light. Flashing jelly rings and bracelets can adorn the wrists of guests. Although, not traditionally regarded as jewelry, sunglasses in the form of LED shutter shades decorate the face brilliantly.

Hot accessories light up the dance floor. In a sea of dancers, virtually every piece that lights up under the black lights or by LED provides a silhouette to an otherwise shadowed form. Glow sticks, wands and other glow in the dark party accessories are virtually the only items that light up. Other glow party novelties, such as large glowing waterproof beach balls heat up the party scene, whether used on the dance floor or pool parties. nichia 160w chip led high bay up party supplies, such as light-up balloons, are also a possibility to liven up any party theme.

taking multiple tiers of the value chain into account

The manufacturing of individually designed organic light-emitting diodes and solar cells and their combination can be realized in the near future. After three years the project led floodlights (distributed Cloud product specification and supply chain manufacturing execution infrastructure), which was funded by the European Union, now successfully completed its work.

The objective of the ManuCloud project was the development of a service-oriented IT environment as basis for the next level of manufacturing networks by enabling production-related inter-enterprise integration down to shop floor level. Industrial relevance was guaranteed by involving industrial partners from the organic photovoltaic, organic lighting and automotive supply industries.

The European Union´s Seventh Framework Programme funded project ManuCloud was set up in 2010 with the mission to investigate the production IT-related aspects for this transition and to develop and evaluate a suitable IT infrastructure to provide better support for on-demand manufacturing scenarios, taking multiple tiers of the value chain into account. The led high bay light members implemented the vision of a cloud-like architecture concept, providing users with the ability to utilize the manufacturing capabilities of configurable, virtualized production networks, based on cloud-enabled, federated factories, supported by a set of software-as-a-service applications.

We always welcome customers to challenge us

Primoceler, a microfabrication company specializing in laser micro welding and scribing of transparent materials, has developed the first sapphire-to-sapphire welding process.
"We were the first to weld glass to glass, glass to silicon and now sapphire to sapphire,” said Ville Hevonkorpi, Primoceler's Managing Director. “Sapphire-to-sapphire welding is even more difficult than glass-to-glass welding, and no one has been able to do it before."
Sapphire's cost-effectiveness, durability, high melting point, chemical inertness, transparency and capacity for optical transmission in visible, ultraviolet (UV) and near-infrared (IR) light make it a highly desirable material in several industries. For example, because of the material's resistance to heat and chemical erosion, sapphire substrates are currently used in the manufacturing of many LEDs for mobile handsets, televisions, automobile headlights and general lighting.
Sapphire has also yielded a great deal of benefits for medical devices. As an optical material, its durability is second only to diamond, which, in addition to the fact that it is chemically inert and non-thrombogenic (will not cause blood clots), makes it an excellent material for surgical tools, implants, braces as well as endoscopes and laser windows.

"Sapphire is widely used in sensors, different types of lenses and other devices, so there is a range of potential for this new technology," said Hevonkorpi. "Companies that use sapphire for their products will come to us with ideas of how sapphire-to-sapphire welding technology can benefit them. We always welcome customers to challenge us and test their products."

given the cost of electricity

LED Canada is pleased to announce the launch of its Bright Futures Native Community Efficiency Program. “LED Canada is founded on the not-just-for-profit community involvement model and the opportunity to contribute nationally to the growth of Canada’s native communities is a perfect fit for our social values," said LED Canada president David Schincariol.

With this program LED Canada works together with native leaders to provide low cost, high efficiency led flood light to native communities across Canada. Not only saving them on energy costs and thus allowing them to direct funding to other programs like improving living conditions, social services and recreation, but the company also contributes 5% of revenue to the community leaders, to invest in innovation and development for local communities.

“What is most amazing, given the cost of electricity and long dark periods in the North, was that the return on investment for these Northern communities to implement our LED solutions, it is by far the fastest payback period in the country, even before government incentives and the LED Canada profit sharing program,” said Rob Huston, Technical Solutions Architect for LED Canada.

High Wavelength UV mercury lamp systems

Instant drying, energy savings, elimination of anti-marking spray powder and cylinder jackets, and removal of heat along with speed, uptime, and curing production consistency, are the top reasons for adopting UV LED lamp systems over traditional methods of drying according to AMS President and CEO, Steve Metcalf. "There is a growing, global industry movement towards eco-friendly UV LED based curing, and we are thrilled to highlight the recent successes from our customers and partners of this exciting technology at led high bay light next week," said Metcalf.
LED systems from AMS can be deployed as 100 percent standalone LED curing solutions, or can be combined with high efficiency standard UV ARC lamp modules, known as C-LED Titanium UV modules, for maximum effect and energy savings on the widest range of LED and existing UV energy curable inks, coatings and varnishes.
Unlike other forms of high reaction energy curing, including Low Energy and High Wavelength UV mercury lamp systems that attempt to mimic the output of LED through the use of an iron-doped mercury bulb, the XP5 Series LED UV system from AMS reduces the energy requirement by a half, and does not require a UV prepared press for installation. In addition, the lifetime and curing consistency of the ozone and mercury-free XP5 LED lamps do not degrade every 750-1000 hours like their mercury lamp (Hg) counterparts. And damaging heat is not emitted into the press or sheets.
Sixty Cree LED luminaires illuminate the South Lake Tahoe store, generating significant energy savings compared to the fluorescent, metal halide and halogen fixtures used at Raley’s existing Fair Oaks, Calif. location. Cree’s interior and exterior fixtures deliver exceptional color rendering, light quality and distribution and allow the use of fewer fixtures than required with traditional lighting.
The new Cree lighting system includes Cree 304 Series™ recessed soffit luminaires and Cree CR24™ troffers in the convenience store along with Cree 304 Series recessed canopy luminaires installed over the fuel canopy deck and Cree 227 Series™ recessed soffit luminaires in the car wash bay.led flood light wall-mount security luminaires, as well as post-top and arm-mounted luminaires provide further exterior lighting in the parking lot.

“Implementing energy-efficient LED lighting supports our goal of reducing overall energy consumption at new stores and in upgrades to our 128 locations,” said Randy Walthers, energy and utility manager.who met our needs with high-quality Cree LED lighting equipped with a sophisticated control system for remarkable savings and light quality.”

LED Lamp Specification was created to move consumers away from inefficient lighting of the past century

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) has long been a proponent for energy-efficient lighting technologies for its customers. SMUD will provide a rebate for the new Cree TW Series LED Bulb. “SMUD sees huge value in reducing the lighting portion of electric bills and is a staunch supporter of the new CA LED Quality lighting standard,” said Elisabeth Brinton, SMUD Chief Customer Officer. “We are thrilled to see the first bulbs reach the market. This technical accomplishment makes a huge contribution to energy efficiency, while benefiting consumers with quality lighting,” said Brinton.

The CA specification focuses on six quality attributes for LED lamps, including color temperature, color consistency, color rendering, dimmability, lifetime and light distribution. The new CA standard requires all retrofit lamps to achieve a CRI of 90 or better – the higher the CRI of a bulb, the more accurate the actual color of the objects it illuminates.

“The Voluntary California Quality LED Lamp Specification was created to move consumers away from inefficient lighting of the past century and toward more efficient LED lighting technology,” said Michael Siminovitch, Director, California Lighting Technology Center. “The new Cree TW Series is the first bulb to meet the CA Specification and is exactly what consumers need to see in order to finally transform this marketplace.”

California is yet again leading the nation with a higher standard for energy efficiency – this time it’s across the lighting industry. The introduction of Compact Fluorescent Lighting (CFL) led to a backlash of consumer dissatisfaction for many reasons, the greatest being its failure to provide Californians a quality lighting alternative to inefficient incandescent technology. New technology, like the new Cree TW Series LED Bulb, offers CA consumers a no-compromise alternative to CFL and incandescents.

The individual lights in the large

The new Opel Adam exhibited at the IAA, features the starry headliner. Freudenberg's NOK Mechatronics Business Group developed the flexible printed circuit board technology for the popular car's star-filled headliner. Doing so was no simple task: The individual lights in the large, domed roof needed to be precisely connected without using any wires. It was the first time that the flexible, printed-circuit-board technology was used on such a large surface. Freudenberg engineers and developers worked with the headliner manufacturer and in 18 months developed an individual solution for Opel. The result –led flood light shining like tiny and large stars on the car's roof.

Thanks to Freudenberg technology, it is now possible for the Opel Adam city car to have a star-filled headliner which had previously only been available in luxury vehicles," said Christophe Luciani, responsible for Sales, Purchasing and Quality Management in the NOK Mechatronics Board of Management. "We worked closely with the customer to create such an innovative product." The star-filled headliner is just one of many Freudenberg products at the motor show developed by working closely with customers.

At the customer's request, the popular new Opel Adam has been available with the new starry headliner and Freudenberg technology since February: The flat version of the star-filled headliner in the roof is less than 0.2 millimeters thick. It can only be seen when turned on and has no rises or depressions. The headliner is also very light. The part weighs less than 150 grams. Power consumption is also very low. The scale illumination in the car radio uses much more power and Illumination can be adjusted using an integrated control panel in the roof liner. The lights can be dimmed so that the driver is not blinded.

The customer may choose between five fabric options. They range from various single colors to fall leaves and clouds against a blue sky. "The trend is moving towards giving customers ever more individualized vehicles," said Wulf Bramesfeld, Technical Sales Manager at led high bay light. "Freudenberg is a flexible printed circuit board technology expert and used the technology on a large scale for the first time, combining it with new materials. The challenge was electronically connecting and precisely inserting the lamps on such a thin and domed surface. A standardized solution has now been created that impressed our customer.

produce lighting all suit the use of LED lighting products

Mitsubishi has developed two different technologies to combat against the problems that occur when sapphire wafers are combined with yellow phosphor to create white light. The first is to increase the white LED color rendering to above 80. The other is to use UV LEDs with a wavelength of 400nm and add red, green, and blue phosphor to produce white light. Mitsubishi states that this will increase color rendering to above 90 and color reproducibility will be high.

Mitsubishi points out that UV wafers paired with red, green, and blue phosphor technology will have the same light composition as sunlight, with a color rendering index of about 95. When illuminated, light quality goals will be met without the appearance of a multiple array of colors. The application of this technology in areas such as residential indoor lighting, museums, commercial areas, and produce lighting all suit the use of LED lighting products which employ UV light paired with red, green, and blue phosphor to produce white light.

The ongoing patent lawsuit between Taiwanese LED packaging manufacturer Everlight and Japanese LED manufacturer Nichia heats up. The two companies have filed lawsuits in Japan, Taiwan, Germany, the U.S. and China. General Manager of Legal Affairs and Intellectual Properties at Nichia, Katsuyuki Akutagawa attended a press conference in Taiwan on September 13th. He stated that Nichia will no longer be passive during this dispute but fight back against Everlight’s patent infringement.

one of the many reasons the light feels more natural

Installations with higher ceilings, i.e., greater than 10 feet (3 meters), and fewer light points can now accommodate a better grade of lighting than is possible with fluorescent or ceramic metal halide (CMH) sources. As these latter light sources have been increasingly used in commercial and residential settings to save energy and reduce costs, there has been an associated loss of comfort and natural feel to the light they produce.led high bay light has utilized the science of color and light, phosphors and solid-state technology to create its Artist Series and bring back the natural lighting that people prefer.

"Between the drive to create more efficient light sources and the regulatory controls that are removing some sources from the market, we've seen a gradual acceptance in homes and professional environments for light that simply doesn't have the richness or sparkle that was historically a hallmark of halogen light," said Joanna Brace, Executive Vice President of Marketing for Xicato. "The first experience you have when entering any space – whether a restaurant, a shop, a hotel or your home is how the light makes you feel. Achieving color rendering greater than 95 and quality of light that makes us feel good and makes objects and colors 'look right' is achievable with a light source that is more efficient than halogen or CFL and lasts longer than fluorescent and CMH. Sacrificing quality of light for efficiency shouldn't be the choice.

The light from led flood lighting is virtually indistinguishable from halogen, is more energy efficient, and delivers color consistency and longevity that greatly exceeds what's possible with halogen lamps. The color rendering index (CRI) is the most often used measure of light quality and the Artist Series has a CRI ≥ 95 as measured against all 15 official reference colors. Fluorescent and CMH color rendering is typically based on only eight of the 15 CRI reference colors. The Artist Series virtual match to halogen across all 15 color points is one of the many reasons the light feels more natural.
