DALI LED weatherproof battens feature digitally controlled modules via DALI signal with the functions depending on the controller used. Minimum and maximum dimming levels can be programmed, while the control input is protected against polarity reversal and accidental connection to mains voltage. Control line must be installed according to relevant directives on low voltage.

The DSI is controlled by a separate line – if the layout is changed, only the control line needs re-routing, and the load line can stay. The low voltage cable is polarity-free and can be connected to the DSI connection of the converter. Converters with integrated DSI function can specify a minimum dimming value, maximum brightness and emergency value for all connected devices in control circuit. The digital interface ensures consistent lighting levels from first to last fitting - individual fittings cannot be addressed separately.

Dimming direction is changed when the switch is operated again. The switch needs to be held for 10s to synchronise all connected devices to 50% dimming value.The corridor allows presence controlled led high bay light systems to be programmed without an additional controller. The light is not switched off when no one is present, but dims to a pre-set level. It can be programmed to switch off after a pre-set period of time.

YAHAM Lighting have revealed a new range of light bulb that combines its YAHAM  reveal brand with LED lighting technology and claims to deliver the energy-efficient light of an LED as well as providing cleaner, more vivid light in the home. Nichia has rolled out new high power point source white LEDs

Nichia has rolled out new high power point source white LEDs , code named under Nichia part number “NVSx219A”, or “Nichia 219“.It suits for interior and exterior general illumination applications.

The 219 white LED offers typical 140 lumen output at 1 W input power with 5,000 K color temperature. It has the industry leading source brightness and tightest optical footprint with a uniformly phosphor coated chip. The spatial color uniformity is also optimized with Nichia’s leading phosphor technology. At 350 mA drive current, the typical forward voltage is only 3.0 V. This package is capable of drive currents up to 1.5 A.

The 219 white LED also complies with Energy Star, such as ANSI standard chromaticity binning, full color temperature selections, high CRI performance, LM-80 test data, and other relevant certifications.


To make Nichia 219 user friendly, Nichia has incorporated an electrically isolated heat sink in the LED design, and lowered the junction to board thermal resistance.

Based on this, someone familiar with Delta`s LED-bulb plan predicted that the company would ship five to 10 folds more bulbs in 2011 than it will do in 2010, making the bulb the company`s new growth driver.

Not long before, Delta has also secured Hitachi contracts for the bulbs, helping swell the company’s shipments of the bulbs to one million a year.

However, industry executives analyze that Hitachi demands Delta to use Japan-made chips in its bulbs contracted by Hitachi, making the contracts beneficial to no Taiwanese chipmakers.

At present, Osram has signed an agreement with Epistar on cross-license patents. Delta has been considered to build Epistar chips into its bulbs designated by Osram.It’s said that Epistar high-voltage chip to be the led flood light most efficient chip of this kind, reportedly outperforming the one each developed by Cree and Philips Lumileds.

Lawson Inc also plans to install LED bulbs

Affected by power shortages in Japan’s eastern and northeastern regions, Seven-Eleven Japan has planed to replace in-store and signboard lights with LED lighting at 5,000 outlets of its convenience store chain as part of a 10 billion yen program to cope with this problem.

At present, Seven-Eleven Japan has some 6,000 outlets in Tokyo Electric Power’s service area alone. And it’s estimated that power saving of per store is125 kilowatts a day. The company expects to cut the consumption of electricity by 25 percent in the July-September period. It also includes installation of solar panels on 1,000 stores.

The OLED "Geo-Cosmos" display will be unveiled at the museum as the world's first large-scale spherical OLED screen on June 11.

Hanging 18 meters from the floor, the globe is an aluminum sphere covered with 10,362 OLED panels, each measuring 96 x 96 millimeters. Mitsubishi Electric used its scalable OLED technologies to create the globe, which replaces a globe comprising LEDs to commemorate the museum's 10th anniversary. The globe will display scenes of clouds and other visions of the earth taken from a meteorological satellite. Projections will feature resolution of more than 10 million pixels, about 10 times greater than that of the LED display.

Asides from Mitsubishi Electric, three other companies helped to make the OLED Geo-Cosmos display: Dentsu Inc. undertook project planning, Go and Partners, Inc. developed the image-processing and transmission system, and GK Tech Inc. created the spheroid design.

Reportedly,nichia has withdrawn the two provisional injunction actions it filed to the Tokyo District Court against Koyo Business Services, Inc. on July 26, 2011.

Previously, Nichia believed that Led high bay light products which were manufactured by LumiRich, one of the ILJIN group companies,and sold by Koyo used LEDs manufactured without license from Nichia.
In the provisional injunction action procedure, Koyo stated that it has changed the LEDs used in all of the PICASONA products sold after the action was filed to licensed products of Nichia. Nichia withdrew the actions for this reason.

However, the patent infringement issue regarding PICASONA products from before the LEDs were changed to licensed products of Nichia remains unresolved.

Nichia will seek cooperation from users of such PICASONA products for them to take appropriate measures such as to switch to LED lighting products using LEDs with Nichia license.

Although the droop-causing factor has not been clearly resolved, the research team at UC Santa Barbara has devised an innovative technique to reduce droop by revolutionizing the production method of LEDs.LED chips are created from layers of doped semiconductors packed together. By applying voltage through these layers, migration of electrons and holes takes place, which is directed toward an active layer area of LED, resulting in a photon. The commercially available blue LEDs, the c-plane accommodate the crystals that bind the semiconductor layers. Based on this standard orientation of the crystals, electrical fields that intervene during integration of the electrons and holes can be created.

The research team from UCSB designed LEDs that consist of tilted and non-traditional crystal orientations that reduce the field’s effect, showing minimal droop. Based on this approach, compact and low-cost led flood light chips were developed by the researchers.Recently, NGK Insulators Ltd has made a breakthrough on LED Luminous Efficiency with a gallium nitride wafer. The company claims that the new GaN wafer can realize twice as high a luminous efficiency as existing LED light sources.According to the company, it realized a transparent and colorless wafer with a low defect density by using its own liquid phase growth method for a single-crystal growth process.Based on the breakthrough, the company intends to launch the "Wafer Project" in fiscal 2012, aiming to commercialize its wafer-related products at an early date. It intends to start to ship samples of its world's first 4-inch diameter GaN wafer made by using a liquid phase growth method within 2012.The lamps in both series can provide bright light in entryways, stairways, lobbies, and reception areas. Because of higher lumen outputs, these can be set higher in a room without sacrificing light quality, or they can be placed farther away from the wall for track lighting.

LED streetlights on the island

With strong support of South Korean government, Samsung and LG have shown aggressive attempt to become world leader in the LED lighting industry. Samsung has equipped itself with integrated LED manufacturing capability involving epi-wafer and package manufacturing. The order came in the third quarter of 2011, initially for the CRIUS II-L version, and was immediately converted into Aixtron′s brand new XL-configuration right after its launch. Delivery of the new reactor will take place in the fourth quarter of 2011.The CRIUS II-XL reactor has been acquired for the volume production of InGaN-based high-brightness (HB) blue LED epiwafer materials. One of Aixtron′s local support teams will install and commission the new reactor in the company’s state-of-the-art production complex in Taiwan.

PIDA pointed out that over 660 individual buyers from 30 countries and regions registered in advance to visit the shows this year, increasing 41% from 2011. Mainland China organized procurement missions with a record number of around 500 individual buyers participating in the four shows. Also, mainland Chinese organized 31 exhibitors to take part in the four shows this year.This year, a total of 253 exhibitors displayed their latest products at 797 booths at the four shows this year 150W led tunnel light, respectively, from the 2011 event. Fiser is an optimist who sees hope of a market rebound in 2013, or in 2015 at the latest, as a result of the reduction in LED-bulbs prices.
