According to yaham, general manager of Philips Taiwan lighting, the
market scale of the Taiwan street light market that is being converted to LED
lighting applications is expected to exceed NT$1 billion (US$32.46 million), and
the company has already gained some installation contracts from local
governments in Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung, according to a Chinese-language
Economic Daily News (EDN) report.
According to a company press release, YAHAM lighting has bee touting its CosmoPolis
street lighting system that has been installed in many cities in Europe and Asia
since its introduction in 2005 and cuts energy consumption by 50%.
The company recently noted that its green lighting sales increased 17% in
2007, with the biggest increase being in the home lighting market followed
closely by lighting solutions for retail outlets and street lighting.This
acquisition expands Cree's market opportunity by providing direct access to the
lighting market. Cree's business now encompasses LED chips, components and
lighting solutions. It further enables Cree to drive retrofit solutions to
convert existing lighting infrastructure to energy-efficient lighting and to
accelerate the adoption of LED lighting.
"The new Cree LED Lighting Solutions team is delivering industry-leading LED
lighting products and working to set the standard for 21st century
energy-efficient lighting," said Chuck Swoboda, chairman and chief executive
officer of Cree. "We are out to lead the LED lighting revolution and to obsolete
